D01-2 Texture Manipulation Method Based on Reality Augmentation by Controlling Shape and Reflection Properties of Real Objects Using Projected Light

Takefumi Hiraki Faculty of Library, Information and Media Science, University of Tsukuba

In this research, we will construct a texture manipulation technology based on reality augmentation by cooperatively controlling the shape and reflection properties of real objects with the projected light as well as the superimposition of images. Specifically, we will construct and develop a design theory for both a real object to be projected that can change its reflection properties and shape and a projector that can control these characteristics with projected light. The control of reflection properties will be realized by superimposing ultraviolet or thermal pattern on the image and projecting it onto a target object coated with chromic ink whose color changes with external stimuli. Shape control is achieved by superimposing a heat pattern on the image and projecting it onto a target object using soft robotic technology that can control flexible shape changes.Through these approaches, we will develop texture manipulation methods that enable images and real objects to function in a complementary manner.
