D01-3 Scientific Understanding of Master Craftsmanship in Nondestructive Inspection at Manufacturing Sites and Its Application to Visual Enhancement

Yukio Kawano Chuo University

As various products are widely used in society and thus attention is focused on ensuring safety and security, the importance of non-destructive and non-contact measurements of products is increasing year by year. However, the difference in inspection accuracy between experienced and new technicians has become a major problem in the inspection field, and it is unclear why the former can detect with higher accuracy than the latter. This brings us to the interesting question of the shitsukan of inspection. In order to accurately hand down the technician’s skill, which has been ambiguously called the mind’s eye, the purpose of this research is to scientifically understand the sensory and cognitive processes involved in the inspection-related shitsukan and to realize visual enhancement to guarantee inspection accuracy, Based on our original flexible broadband optical camera, we plan to develop the high-performance camera that mimic the inspector’s eyes and thereby to approach the above objectives by comparing the image results with the inspection results.
