D01-5 Pleasant touch caused by the singular contact phenomena between skin and skin

Shogo Okamoto Tokyo Metropolitan University

What is the root cause of the pleasantness in touching skins? This research aims to answer such a question. We investigate the conditions, under which skins are felt pleasant through the measurement of mechanical properties of actual and artificial skins including their frictional properties and hardness and sensory evaluation of artificial skins. This study is driven by an important hypothesis; that is the pleasantness of skins is due to the mechanically compatible two skins in contact. The results of this study will potentially contribute to the development of artificial skins or other products with good tactile feelings as well as understanding the pleasantness in touching skins.
