D01-7 Materiality manipulation beyond reality with lightfield measurement and projection

Toshiyuki Amano Wakayama University

The excessive parameter manipulation with the light field projection on a glossy metallic surface based on the reflection model such as the dichromatic reflection model, potentially realizes the materiality of super glossiness beyond the real metallic reflection. However, since the glossiness properties are expressed with conventional reflection model, and its extraction is limited in the range of physical parameter space. Therefore unexpected material features cannot be extracted. Moreover, the light-field projection manipulating appearance to super materiality may change the target object reflection mode to the shining illumination for its physically incoherences. Not only for the glossiness, but undiscovered features in transparency, roughness, and other materiality cannot be explicitly extracted. In this study, we define the neutral materiality that has no materiality. Then we attempt extraction of undiscovered properties that bring materialities (Deep Shitsukan) from the difference in the radiating light-fields between the materiality objects and the neutral objects. Furthermore, we construct a light-field compensating feedback system using multiple cameras and multiple projectors. With this system, we attempt the creation of the super materialities in the real world with the light-field projection.
