D01-2 Texture Manipulation through Control of Color, Shape, and Tactile Sensation of Materials using Wireless Power Transmission

Takefumi Hiraki Cluster Metaverse Lab

In this study, I aim to create a media system that utilizes wireless power transmission to control the color, shape, and tactile sensation of real materials, thereby enabling the presentation of textural information based on their material properties. Specifically, I employ wireless power transmission to supply power to circuits, which in turn drive an array of miniature heaters. By selectively heating the real materials, we can control their color, shape, and tactile sensation. I also evaluate the potential applications of these materials by assessing their temporal responses and displacements.
Furthermore, I apply this textural information media as a human interface and evaluate its impact on users’ perception of texture and behavioral changes through user experiments. This evaluation allows me to establish a technological foundation for manipulating and editing profound textural sensations.
