演　題：Color, preference, art paintings
概　要：
Color is one of the visual features that most influences individuals’ preferences, for example, when choosing clothes, or when imagining the nature of a company from its logo, color greatly influences people’s decisions. Art paintings, on the other hand, are considered to purely reflect the artist’s taste or preference for colors, and therefore diversity is naturally expected. This talk will cover our recent studies on universality, not diversity, in color preference for color composition of art paintings. We have measured preferences for color composition of paintings by manipulating correlated color temperature (CCT) of the illuminants for appreciation of paintings, and by rotating the color gamut of paintings (original v.s. hue-rotated versions). In short, diversity in preference was limited, rather it seems to be universal among observers; people may share a sense of what makes certain color combinations aesthetically pleasing. I would also like to discuss, if time allows, what kind of color features play a role in aesthetic judgement for color composition of paintings.
